Christina Perri’s delicately beautiful song “A Thousand Years” contains the lyric: “Darling, don’t be afraid. I have loved you for a thousand years, I’ll love you for a thousand more.” That line alone would make this an extraordinary choice for your first dance. The first time I played it at a wedding, there were actual tears flowing. And if t’s not your “thing”, just ignore the song’s connection to the “Twilight” movies and you’ve got yourself a winner. Check out these lyrics:
“Heart beats fast. Colors and promises
How to be brave. How can I love when I’m afraid to fall
But watching you stand alone all of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow
One step closer…
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don’t be afraid I have loved you for a thousand years
I’ll love you for a thousand more”.
The melody is so strong on its own that I’ve actually played an piano arrangement of the song for several bridal processionals. And please accept my humble apologies to those of you who might be loyal fans of The Twilight Saga movies. Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years” is a terrific song, and should most definitely be in the running in your search for the perfect first dance.
